A Statement From CV

April 24, 2026 – We are deeply troubled by allegations recently reported by CNN that immigrant children in our Heightened Supervision Treatment Program were abused by staff.

The safety, dignity, and well-being of every child in our care is our highest responsibility. We have zero tolerance for abuse, mistreatment, retaliation, or any form of punishment.

All credible allegations of abuse or neglect are reported to the New York State Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, the independent State agency responsible for investigating allegations of abuse and neglect involving people receiving services. We cooperate fully with that process and with local law enforcement as appropriate.

We have served immigrant children and families since our founding, and we have worked with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement since 2005. Since then, our family reunification programs have successfully reunited more than 12,000 immigrant children with family. This work is deeply connected to who we are and to our long-standing commitment to children who are separated from safety, stability, and belonging.

Less than 2% of the young people we serve receive treatment in our heightened supervision program. Many arrive after profound trauma, instability, and failed interventions elsewhere. They need skilled care, strong safeguards, clinical support, and adults who will not give up on them. That responsibility is heavy, and we do not take it lightly.

This moment has been painful, but it has not changed who we are. The Children’s Village remains committed to doing extremely difficult work with honesty, transparency, accountability, and love for the children and families we serve.
