Mitigating Juvenile and Criminal Justice Impacts

Many young people we serve have been touched by the juvenile justice, and sometimes even adult criminal justice systems. We know that early intervention disrupts the school-to-prison pipeline. We support youth and their families in a myriad of ways as they navigate these systems.

Our Transformative Mentoring Initiatives (TMI) division supports young people involved or at risk of being justice-impacted. These programs are facilitated by our credible messengers, trained young adult mentors who have been involved in the juvenile justice system, and now serve as inspiring role models, providing valuable guidance without judgment. Evidence suggests that TMI significantly reduce recidivism while providing skill-building and social emotional support.

The Inwood House at The Children’s Village Community Support Program Division provides re-entry services to youth ages 14-21 in the NYC area who have returned to the community in the last 6 months from secure, limited-secure, and non-secure placement. Services include educational support, employment assistance, and referrals to additional needed services.

The Second Chance Program is a Free alternative-to-detention service for New York City youth ages 13-20 with legal troubles and/or court mandated requirements to enroll and engage in specialized counseling services.

We provide evidence-based and evidence-informed interventions designed to help youth develop healthy coping skills, stay in school, graduate, and succeed in life.  Models such as: the Integrated Treatment Model (ITM), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), Multisystemic Therapy (MST), BraveLife Intervention (BLI), and Working Alongside Youth (WAY).
